I ate ice. Literally. Then did the jump again anyway.

Hey there Reader,

Last week at figure skating practice, I ran through a jump combo I've landed a thousand times. My blade caught the back edge, my legs went out from under me, and I hit the ice tailbone first. Full stop, no grace, just me on the ground wondering how many vertebrae I still had.

Here's the part that matters: I did not sit at the boards feeling sorry for myself. I got up, skated it off for about ninety seconds, and did the jump again. Immediately. Because I know exactly what happens if I let that fall live in my head on the way off the ice. It calcifies. Next time I try that jump, my body remembers the fear more than the technique.

Your business works the same way. You already know the moment I'm talking about. The client call that went sideways. The pitch that fell flat. The launch that landed on its tailbone in front of everyone. Most business owners skate to the boards and stay there. They let the story about what went wrong get bigger every day they don't act.

The lesson isn't "don't fall." You will fall. Mastery doesn't prevent that, I've been skating for years and the ice still won. The lesson is: get up before the story hardens.

Hit reply and tell me: what's the thing you've been sitting at the boards on this week? I read every single one.

Cheering you on,
Angela

Quick Tip:

The 90-Second Rule. Whatever went sideways this week, give yourself exactly as long as I gave my tailbone: enough time to feel it, not enough time to spiral.

Action:

Name one thing that "fell" this week (a call, a launch, a decision). Do the very next step on it today, before the story in your head about it gets a chance to set.

Skipping the Debrief?

Most small businesses finish a project, send the invoice, and immediately sprint to the next fire. Nobody stops to ask what actually went well, what didn't, and what it's quietly costing you to skip that conversation.

I'm walking through the exact debrief questions I run after every project (and yes, solo operators, this works for you too).

Business Strategist • Small Business • Since 2007 Are you tired of feeling like your business is running you? I take business owners from being overwhelmed, overworked, and undervalued to being strategic, productive, and profitable. Many business owners are too busy working in their business to work on their business. They get bogged down with wearing many hats, trying to grow their business, and deliver their product. I show business owners how to avoid the pitfalls, ignite a spark, and let their sparkle shine through.

Hey there Reader, Let's be honest: you're not burned out because your strategy is bad. You're burned out because you've been making every hard call by yourself, and nobody warned you that's the part that actually breaks people. Someone came up to me after a recent speaking event and said something that's been rattling around in my head ever since: "It's just really lonely being a business owner, isn't it?" I gave the polite nod in the moment and wish we had a few minutes to really dig in to...

Hey there Reader, True story: last month I made a business decision by flipping a coin. Heads, I take on the project. Tails, I pass. It landed on tails. I did not like that. So naturally, I did what any rational, emotionally regulated business owner would do. I flipped it again. Still tails. Flipped a third time out of pure spite. (Also tails. The universe was being extremely clear with me and I was choosing violence.) Here's what that little coin-flipping meltdown taught me. I already knew...

Hey there Reader, I have a confession. My client Danielle hired me to help her make a decision. Instead, I watched her build a 14 tab spreadsheet to avoid making one. She called it due diligence. I called it a very expensive form of hiding. Here's the thing about stuck decisions: they rarely stay stuck because the answer is hard to find. They stay stuck because finding the answer feels safer than living with it. Danielle already knew she needed to raise her rates. She just needed permission...
